Background Information:
The students should be familiar with sequencing stories; however, they will not have experience sequencing with Inspiration.
Lesson Procedures:
Day One
1. Assess prior knowledge of the students by asking the students a simple sequencing question, "What did you do this morning before you came to school?"
2. To motivate the student, use a bunny puppet. Tell the students they need to help him solve a problem.
3. Next, read the book The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown.
4. The students will orally restate the sequence of the story.
Day Two
1. Students will work in cooperative groups in centers to sequence the story.
2. Group A will sequence the story using a flannel board and flannel board characters.
3. Group B will sequence the story using Inspiration software (with teacher's help) . The students will go to the computer and open the teacher made template.
Day Three
The students will take a field trip to Black Bayou Lake refuge. While there, the students will see if they can spot the runaway bunny. The teacher will stress the sequential order of events while on the field trip. Back at school, the teacher will use Timeliner to aid the students in sequencing the day's events at Black Bayou Lake refuge.
Assessment Procedures:
The teacher will observe the children.
A rubric will be used to assess the student's participation in Inspiration.
Accommodations/Modifications:
We will use peer tutoring for exceptional students.
Students who need one on one can work with the tutor.
See Individual IEPs for additional modifications.----- written by Ernestine Head
