Field Experience Activities
What's Up with Water?
Logistics: Students will be divided into 2 groups. Half will
go to Activity 1 and half to Activity 2 at beginning of the session,
remain for 30 minutes, and then swap activities.
Activity 1: pH
Facilitator:
Description: Working in groups, students will be assigned individual
task as they use pH probes as well as lab kits to test the pH
of the water. If time is available the students will use the
Dataloggers to gather data.
Time:
30 minutes

Activity 2: Organisms
Facilitator:
- Description: Students will use microscopes or ProScopes to
view water samples from the pond to examine the water for organisms.
A Scope on a Rope will be used to introduce the students to some
of the organisms they might see. The students will also observe
the many animals that are housed in the CLC.

- Logistics: Subdivide the students into two groups.
--One group will go to the CLC and view microscopic organisms
using a Scope on a Rope. The students can draw what they see
and then go to the computers and locate microscopic organisms
using a pre-selected website.
--The other group will observe the many animals housed in the
CLC.
Time: 15
minutes each station (30 minutes total)
