Why Should I
Enroll in INTECH?
You will learn
how to use technology effectively, appropriately and
seamlessly in your classroom. INTECH will take you beyond
sitting a student at the computer and loading a CD. It will
teach you where to find standards-based, technology-rich
lesson plans and other educational materials; how to use
productivity applications to create newsletters,
presentations, tests, maps, etc.; and how to involve
students in higher-level activities that will challenge and
engage them in the learning process. All technology
skills are taught within a lesson. Curriculum is the focus
of INTECH. All activities are project-based and correlated
to the Louisiana Content Standards.
As an added incentive for you to enroll, the district will
provide a multi-media computer, INTECH-adopted applications,
and printer for the classroom of any teacher who does not
have one or has one that is older than 3 years.
Applications for K-6 include: MS Office Suite (Word,
PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Outlook), KidPix Studio Deluxe,
Publisher, and Inspiration. Applications for 7-12 include: MS Office Suite
(Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Outlook), Publisher,
and Inspiration. Please note: Any
teacher who does NOT complete all requirements will be
dropped from the program and the project equipment will be
removed from the classroom.
The IT Teacher Assistant provides on-site assistance for all
INTECH graduates the semester following completion of the
class. The TA will assist participants with lesson design,
implementation or other curriculum support. At the end of
that semester, she is available upon request. Simply
complete a Request for Professional Support (.doc
or .rtf) and return it to
IT to schedule assistance.
The state has mandated that districts assess both teachers
and students in the use of technology. A random sampling of
8th grade students as well as sampling of certified
personnel will be tested beginning Spring 2004. INTECH
training will help you and your students to prepare for
assessment.
