Neville Speech, Drama, & Debate Patricia Turner - Sponsor and Department Chair Neville Varsity Speech Wins Big!
Neville’s Speech has done it again! Our Speech Team is overwhelmed by this year’s success! The team has amassed over fifty –three awards in three tournaments while competing across the state of Louisiana. These competitive Thespians and debaters are ecstatic while showing off their hardware after victoriously winning 25 trophies including the First Place Sweep trophy at the Ruston High School Bearcat Classic on February 14, 2009. In November 08, the team competed at the Bolton High School Tournament in Alexandria bringing home a total of 11 trophies along with the Second Place Sweep. With the New Year dawning in January, the Neville Speech team competed in the St. Augustine High School Speech Tournament in New Orleans winning an impressive 17 trophies. These speech tournament results qualified most of the team’s members for the prestigious Tournament of Champions confirming that the team ranks among the top ten in the state. The squad’s total life time winnings are now over 700 awards in twelve years of being coached by speech teacher Pat Turner. Ms. Turner was recently celebrated at ULM as a Top Twenty Educator and Mentor in Monroe City Schools. In June, Turner will be recognized by the Mad-Hatters’ Professional Women’s Organization as a Woman of Excellence for giving unselfishly of her time and energy toward the betterment of all youth in our community.
