THOUGHTS FOR THE DAY

Take time to work, for it is the price of success.
Take time to think, for it is the source of power.
Take time to play, for it is the secret of perpetual youth.
Take time to read, for it is the foundation of wisdom.
Take time to be friendly, for it is the road to happiness.
Take time to love and be loved, for it is the privilege of the gods.
Take time to share, for life is too short to be selfish.
Take time to laugh, for laughter is the music of the soul.

Spring Semester Begins

With the beginning of the spring semester on January 7, CHS students and faculty will begin moving toward several important milestones: STAR Testing for the 2nd semester, spring ACT and SAT test dates, college/career decisions for seniors, GEE and iLEAP testing, scheduling for the 2008-2009 school year, and spring extra-curricular activities.

The fall semester presented challenges with internet access, wiring, and telephone installation. Hopefully, most of that work is nearing completion, and what remains should be preparing "punch" lists and "tweaking" existing work. Several teachers received SMART boards to facilitate classroom instruction, and our students now have access, in some classrooms, to "state-of-the-art" technology. Other classrooms are slated to receive equipment during the spring semester --- and dreams continue to be fulfilled with the addition of supplementary materials, equipment, etc. in other classes. At this point, many people are seeing the fulfillment of the "If You Can Dream It, You Can Achieve It" slogan. What is happening at the Dog Pound is evidence that "good things can come to those who wait" and dream and provide justification for their needs.

School attendance has improved (above 90% for the first semester), and the administration has been diligent about discipline, punctuality, classroom performance, and community outreach. We have had record numbers of parents/guardians contacted regarding students, and this trend will continue during the upcoming semester.

We will be evaluating the effectiveness of the "Freshmen Academy" at the end of this semester to make improvements for the fall semester, and the faculty will complete its fifth and final year of LINCS staff development and self-study. With the continued support of the students, faculty, staff, administration, parents, and community, Carroll is steadily moving forward. Be a part of something great --- be active; be vocal; be present; be positive!!! JUST BELIEVE!!!!
