Overview
In January 1995, Neville High School initiated the Renaissance Program
(the first in the Monroe City School System) under the inspiration and
guidance of Dr. Christella Dawson, Assistant Principal. Renaissance is an
incentive program designed to promote and recognize academic achievement,
regular attendance, punctuality, and good behavior by Neville's students.
Renaissance,
with its motto of "Excellence in ALL Things," has had a positive impact
on the academic atmosphere and attitudes of students, staff, and faculty
of the school.
While every student in Renaissance has a minimum GPA of 2.5, not everyone with the GPA qualifies for Renaissance (See eligibility ). Not only do students have to complete an application and file it by a specificdate, but they also must meet several attendance and behavior requirements.
The business community has appreciated the opportunity to contribute
to the academic performance of individual students and to the success of
the school's program, and active business partnerships have grown tremendously.
Businesses provide many free items as well as discounts on purchases to
Renaissance members. In addition to the merchants' perks, Renaissance
students also receive t-shirts as well as weekly treats such as popcorn
and Coke parties, ice cream, chips, and candy during each
academic quarter.
The impact of the Renaissance Program has been phenominal. Students, faculty, and staff look forward to the positive recognition and benefits which accompany hard work in the classroom. Renaissance membership is noted as the number one choice among graduating seniors each year. Renaissance--it really works at Neville High School and you can help!
