Activity 2:  Before Reading (GLEs:  05a, 05c, 05d, 11, 13, 14a, 14b, 14d, 14e, 18, 19d)

CC:  Teachers model, coach, and apply what readers do before reading in order to comprehend a selection better. The teacher explains how good readers make predictions about what they are going to read and how readers can base some pre-reading predictions on what they already know about the kind of story to be read (genre, author's purpose) and their personal experiences with the particular topic or theme.
