Activity 3:  Learn from Authors (GLEs:  07, 16, 18, 26a)

CC:  Students reread and discuss as a class the following:

What is this poem about?

Did the author make you think about this in a new way? (The teacher asks literal and inferential questions.)

Does this piece compare one thing to another?

How are those two the same?

Why did the poet choose to write about the subject this way?

How did the author's words make you feel?

What do you think the author wanted you to realize or understand from reading this poem?

Students record their responses and display on chart paper for future reference.

Use MS Word to create a chart for students' responses.
