Activity 1: Mystery Words (GLEs: 01a, 01b, 26, 27, 39c, 39d, 40a)
CC: Students will use a new-word diagram (e.g., graphic organizer listing word, part or speech, roots and word parts, meaning, synonyms, antonyms, sentence, illustration) to define vocabulary specific to the mystery genre.
Use Inspiration software for graphic organizer. Inspiration template - "Mystery Vocabulary Words"
Use MS Word to create a chart or graphic organizer for the new words. MS Word template - "Mystery Vocabulary Words"
CC: After defining words, students will create word searches, crossword puzzles (e.g., http://www.puzzlemaker.com; Worksheet Magic software) or draw cartoons illustrating the words.
