Unit 4:  Landforms and Topography

Activity 1: Shaping the Land: Constructive and Destructive Forces

CC: Engage the students in a discussion about sediments. Generate a list of as many types of sediment as the students can identify. Ask students how sediments move from one place to another.

Use Inspiration software to brainstorm this list of types of sediments.

This website provides a good overview of landforms.  It contains a great link to Rivers which models the exploration activity demonstrating the flow of a stream and effects of sand.

CC:  After the students have had enough time to observe their stream channels and make sketches, have them compare the sketches to streams or rivers found on aerial maps, satellite maps, or geologic maps of Louisiana.
