CC: First, help students to create a class bulletin board or graphic organizer that identifies the structures and powers of the three branches of the state government, the limits of those powers, and the key positions within each branch.
Use Inspiration software to create a visual representation of the three branches of state government, limits of power, and key positions. Inspiration Template - "Branches of Local Government"
CC: Then, drawing from a variety of state and local positions listed on slips of paper and contained in a hat or box, have students first research the qualifications, terms of office, powers, and limitations of their political position.
Have them also present at least three key issues that, should they be elected, they can influence to effect change for the good in their local government or state.
