Retirement

The following retirement systems are supported by Monroe City Schools which are managed by the Financial Clerk & Retirement Specialist.

• Teacher Retirement System of Louisiana (TRSL)

​

The State of Louisiana requires that teachers join the TRSL. Monroe City Schools contributes 13.1% and employees contribute 8% of their salary to the retirement program. Retirement contributions are tax -sheltered payroll deductions.

Other Retirement Systems include:

• Louisiana Schools Employees Retirement System (LSERS)

• Louisiana State Employees Retirement System (LASERS)

• Nationwide Retirement System (457) (Substitute and temporary employees contribute to this system.)

Retirement benefits are based on years of service and age. Information about retirement options is available from the Human Resource Department upon request. To help prepare employees for retirement, employees may contact the Financial Clerk & Retirement Specialists to schedule a conference to discuss retirement options.
